Gift Ideas: Hard To Shop For Teen Boys

I have never been a teen boy, but I am raising one. We have already established that men are hard to shop for and for many of us, once boys become teens, this is when the shopping challenges start. Here are things my 13-year-old son assures me other teen boys would appreciate:

WANT: Tech Savvy and Cozy Retreats

  1. Smart Watch: A timeless desire for teens, this smart watch has been at the top of Jude's wish list for years. He’s 13 now so this may be the year we finally say yes.

  2. Bluetooth Earbuds: I feel 1000 years old when I shout “TURN YOUR MUSIC DOWN” up the stairs. These will keep that at bay.

  3. Reading Pillow: Hear me out! A friend got Jude a similar reading pillow a couple years ago and it’s been in constant use. He drags it everywhere: to the basement for family movie night, to the living room to read, and back to his bedroom at night.

NEED: Practical Essentials for the Teen Life

  1. Apple Airtag or Tile Tracker: Jude plays sports and usually has to change at school and at practice. He is constantly forgetting one of his bags somewhere. This is the solution to the eternal teen dilemma of misplaced belongings. Keep track of bags and wallets effortlessly.

  2. First Shaver: A rite of passage for every young man. Introduce them to the world of grooming with their first shaver. This one is specifically made for teens and their more sensitive skin.

  3. Skin Care Essentials: Mighty Patches for acne and La Roche-Posay three-step skin care for clear complexions. Because good habits start early, and teens do care about keeping their skin clear!

WEAR: Street-Style Coolness

  1. Status Hoodie: Elevate their street cred with hoodies from Champion, Nike, or Adidas. Order them a size larger than you think you should.

  2. Goodr Sunglasses: Stylish and practical, these sunglasses add a dash of cool to any teen ensemble. Mirrored lenses are a preference.

  3. Socks (Crew Cut): A universal truth - all men, even teens, want socks. Crew cut is where it’s at now. Better if you can get Nike branded socks.

READ: Bonding Moments and Imaginary Adventures

  1. Mom & Son Pass-Back-and-Forth Journal: Strengthen the bond with a journal that passes back and forth. Share thoughts, jokes, and memories. It’s not cheesy, I promise!

  2. Science Fiction - The Martian by Andy Weir: Dive into an out-of-this-world experience with The Martian. Read, discuss, and compare with the movie for added fun.

  3. Fiction Box Set - Percy Jackson Series: For the teen who loves mythical adventures, the Percy Jackson series offers a journey into the realms of gods and monsters.

PROCEED WITH CAUTION: Brand new, expensive shoes. Only because they’re growing so fast. Go secondhand via GOAT in these growing years if you can.

AVOID: Underwear. Just give them underwear when they need it. Don’t save it for an occasion like Christmas.
