I’m a modern girl slightly obsessed with the vintage. I prefer a 1960’s sundress over a new Michael Kors frock. I prefer my Abe Lincoln bracelet over the new watch I got for graduation. My favorite piece of jewelry is my grandma’s owl necklace from the early 70’s. Most of all? I prefer film over digital pictures.

Why?

I think art can be found in the unpredictable. When you use film, there are mistakes that happen that you cannot control (like light leaks, processing mistakes, motion blurs, sun spots, etc.). I think that when you know you can’t just delete a picture if it’s crappy, you think more about the composition of the shot. I think if you spend money to have your pictures printed, you will treasure them more. I think that I hardly ever bother to get my digital pictures printed.

What do you shoot on?

I have two vintage land cameras that use SX-70 Polaroid film and one modern Poloroid camera that uses the standard 600 film. I am obsessed with Polaroid photography and gave a big WTF?! when I found out that Polaroid had decided to cease making instant film this year [official press release].

Recently, I have become obsessed with toy cameras. I love medium format film (120 mm) and hope to have a Diana+ camera and a lomo camera by this summer.

Any future plans?

I plan to start selling artistic prints on Etsy and perhaps one day I’ll do an exhibit at 5619 here in Austin. For now, I’m just trying to hoard as much Polaroid film as possible, and I’m waiting on a small windfall of cash to buy a couple of toy cameras and some medium format film.

Also, I just joined a photo trade, and I can’t wait to start swapping prints.

By the way, here is one of my favorite recent Polaroids. Meet Mr. Jimi Hendrix Adams:
