I am lucky enough to call myself a working actor. As of right now, I have been blessed with steady (paid) acting work, and I have not had go and get a mall job or start waiting tables to supplement my income. This is excellent, since I know that I am a terrible mall employee and waitress.

shakespeare & shaylaCurrent projects:

I have been cast as the love interest “Jill” in Kenneth Brown’s new short film. We begin production on Saturday, May 24th.

I play the lead in “Shakespeare: The Remix” through the Zachary Scott Theater in Austin. We wrapped our spring tour on Wednesday, May 21st and we start touring again in the fall of 2008.

How did you get started in acting?

I’ve been acting since the second grade. I caught the acting bug when I was cast in a class play about Johnie Appleseed (Thank you, Mrs. Bruce and Margaret Brown Elementary School!). I played a little girl who was supposed to sing a lullaby to a corn husk doll. Unfortunately, my grandmother (bless her heart) didn’t know what a corn husk doll was, so I made my stage debut singing to a COB OF CORN wrapped up in a bandanna. Yes. Really.

Are you famous? Have you been in anything significant?

Not yet, but I am no longer singing to corn cobs. If you didn’t blink at all, you might have seen me in the background of the hit television series “Friday Night Lights“. And although it’s hardly acting, you may have also seen me in the season finale of VH1’s “The Pick-Up Artist“. I just so happen to have an IMDb page (trust me, they’re easy to get), and I am signed to a talent agency in Austin, one in Houston, and one in Los Angeles. To some, these may seem like moderate successes, but sadly, right now, these are my only claims to near fame. My grandma once saw Dennis Rodman at a Denny’s in Ohio, so maybe that counts for something…

However, I am proud to say that I had the starring role in Brandy Rainey’s short film “Little Dove“, which premiered at South By Southwest recently (April of 2008). After that I booked the lead in two major children’s plays, which has tied me up for the last 10 weeks. For the time being, I’ve stepped away from extra work as I hope to take more principal roles in film and television this year.
